Picture this – I’m standing in my kitchen making my breakfast when I see and hear an international number is calling my cell.  “Uh oh… which of my friends just got arrested on vacation and needs bail money.

Is this Kickin’ Digital Marketing?” asked a lady with a British accent.  It was a UK company who had a division in Canada and needed some digital marketing help.  After a great conversation and a good amount of social media advice on how we could help with their needs I asked the most logical question. “How did you find us?”

I loved her answer. She had been searching Google for info about social media consultants, companies etc., then started reading the articles the search provided.  “It seemed as though every blog or article was just a bunch of theory. Never about successes, hard numbers or sharing things they had learned.  But then I started reading your blog, and it was all practical.”

The article that led her to us was “3 Principles to Generating and Closing Leads Through Social Media”. I was really excited to see something I had written brought about a great offline connection. I truly believe that giving more, especially for free, results in more.  I read a great book Free: How Today’s Smartest Businesses Profit by Giving Something for Nothing when I started this company, and it made a big impact on me.  It led to the basic ethos that I’ve built Kickin’ Digital Marketing on: the more you share, the more information you give, the more you help others, the more you will get in return.

This feedback from my new friend in the UK also signalled to me that what was previously just a hunch, was actually a very real problem: there is far too much writing and blogging on social media that simply occupies space and wastes the time of people searching for practical help.

Your business deserves practical social media advice.

Digital marketing, specifically leveraging social media, is a medium so new that there is a thirst for practicality because theory alone doesn’t generate leads or close sales.  Very few of the companies I speak to know how social media can help them, how to integrate digital, traditional and social and how all this can really benefit companies, especially small businesses.

That unexpected call really got me motivated to share more information on the projects we are working on for our clients.  So stay close, follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page to keep up with the practical blogs we have in store over the next few months.
